DPM Zahid: Malaysia’s general elections will be held within 180 days

Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has indicated that the next general election will take place within the next 180 days, according to various news reports.

Speaking at the opening of Gerakan’s 46th National Delegates Conference at Menara PGRM on Sunday (Nov 12), he told the party to be prepared when the exact date of the 14th General Elections is announced by Prime Minister Najib Razak

In a Bernama report, he said: “We must make all efforts necessary. I believe the GE14 will only be called next year and if we work hard, we can empower our election machineries to deliver big wins throughout the country.”

While no definite date has been set, he added: “Whoever says that the election will be held after 180 days – they are out of touch with reality.”

He praised Gerakan leaders for their hard work and said that the party can win back Penang from opposition alliance Pakatan Harapan.

It was previously speculated that the elections would be held by the end of the year or in March or April next year, after Chinese New Year, reported the Malay Mail Online.

The elections must be held by August next year.
