LONDON – Former Conservative and Ukip MP Bob Spink has been found guilty of electoral fraud.

Spink, the former MP for Castle Point in Essex, was found guilty of four counts of electoral fraud relating to the Castle Point Borough Council elections last year at Southwark Crown Court.

He was Conservative MP for the constituency from 1992-1997 and then again from 2001. In 2008 he defected to Ukip, becoming its first MP before standing as an independent candidate in the 2010 election.

His agent, James Parkin, was also found guilty of two counts of electoral fraud. The charges were of permitting a false signature to be included on a nomination form for a Ukip councillor.
