Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, expects the Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor fight to break records.
The boxing and UFC crossover event was confirmed on Wednesday. It will take place on August 26 T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Mayweather’s 2015 victory over Manny Pacquiao broke all pay-per-view records, with 4.6 million people purchasing the $99.95 (£65) HBO / Showtime broadcast.
Ellerbe believes Mayweather v McGregor will surpass those figures.
“This is bigger than Mayweather v Pacquiao,” he told reporters. “Anywhere and everywhere I go, it’s all that people are talking about.
“I know what big events feel like,” Ellerbe, a key member of Mayweather’s inner circle, added. “We’ve done the biggest events in boxing history.
“This is a fight where all the Hollywood and NBA stars will come out, you know… Jay-Z, Beyonce, and the Puff Daddies of this world. It’ll be a star-studded affair and the biggest event ever and everybody will be talking about this for years to come.”

Though McGregor is a debutant in professional boxing, he has a wealth of combat sports experience and Ellerbe is wary of the threat that the Irishman possesses.
“All it takes is a guy to nick you with a shot,” he said. “One shot can change the whole outcome [of a fight so] we damn sure ain’t taking Conor McGregor lightly [because] when he touches people, it has a tremendous impact.
“One thing I’ve been impressed with when I’ve been watching Conor McGregor is his hand game. He’s a very slick guy. It looks like when he throws shots, they don’t look hard but the impact his shots have I’m like ‘Damn.’
“I can honestly say I’m a fan. I like his style. He’s confident in his ability, talks a lot of s*** but backs it up. That’s how you earn my respect, when you back it up.
Ellerbe concluded: “Conor McGregor is a terrific guy, he’s funny as hell to me. I get a kick out of everything I see because he reminds me so much of Floyd.”
