Despite the push for electronic smart payments in Singapore, it seems that in certain situations, cash is still king.
On Friday (Feb 2) afternoon, e-payments provider Nets made the rare announcement that its services were down across the island.
Nets transactions, including point-of-sales transactions and top-up services, were temporarily unavailable during the downtime, Nets said on its Facebook page.
Given the widespread use of the Nets service (it currently works with DBS, POSB, HSBC, Maybank, OCBC, Standard Chartered and UOB banks), it is likely that the downtime would have caused major inconvenience to many users in Singapore.
Fortunately, the downtime did not last long.
About an hour after the announcement was made, Nets updated its page to say that its services had resumed and were back to normal.
The company has not released any information on what caused the disruption.
