Uber is trialling a new premium support hotline with a small number of users, according to TechCrunch.
The 24/7 hotline reportedly gives some of Uber’s most frequent riders direct access to a team of Uber customer service staff if they have a problem.
The feature was spotted by TechCrunch journalist Josh Constine.
Constine said he received an email from Uber that reads: “You’ve earned Premium Support … as a thank you for riding 10,633 miles with Uber, we’re giving you pilot access to Premium Support – a dedicated hotline of experts available 24/7 if anything pops up. Fast, friendly support is just a phone call away.”
Those with premium support access can reportedly find the hotline number in the Uber app’s help menu.
Passengers will likely be able to use the hotline to query a bill, and report things like a driver not turning up or more serious incidents such as sexual harassment. (Uber is trying to make passengers feel more safe when they use its platform after multiple reports of drivers raping and sexually harassing passengers).
Uber did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment but a spokesperson reportedly told TechCrunch: “We’re running two small support pilots. The first is beta testing a hotline available 24/7. The second is beta testing support from specially trained experts via our in-app support feature. Riders contact support through the app as they normally would, but receive faster, more personalised service.”
