“It is not about how hard you hit, but how hard you can get hit… and keep moving.”

The immortal words of Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone, rang true in Saturday’s showdown between middleweight sluggers Gennady Golovkin and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Golovkin had knocked out 33 of his previous 36 opponents so it was clear he had concussive power in his fists.

But what we found out this weekend was that he could get hit hard and keep moving forward.

This is because ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, himself a technically-exquisite power puncher, landed a number of heavy shots on Golovkin’s jaw.

But never did Triple-G look particularly rattled. Just watch how he shakes off this ‘overhand right’ in this viral clip:

According to Compubox statistics, Alvarez landed 169 of his 505 punches (114 of those were ‘power’ punches). Golovkin, in contrast, landed 218 of 703 punches (110 of those were ‘power’ punches).

Regardless of the data, the three ringside judges scored the fight a controversial draw. As there was no winner, defending champion Golovkin retained his WBC, WBA, IBF, and IBO belts.
