Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina threw a memorable zinger at real-estate magnate Donald Trump during Wednesday night’s Republican presidential debate.
CNN moderator Jake Tapper asked Fiorina whether she would like to comment on Trump’s “persona,” after Trump was quoted last week mocking Fiorina’s appearance.
“Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that?” Trump was quoted asking while watching Fiorina on the news. “I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”
Trump has since said he was referring to Fiorina’s “persona.”
Fiorina didn’t hold back Wednesday night when asked about the comments, referring back to an earlier exchange at the debate between Trump and former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida.
“It’s interesting to me. Mr. Trump said that he heard Mr. Bush very clearly in what Mr. Bush said,” Fiorina said. “I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said.”
The crowd at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library applauded raucously.
Trump responded by saying, “I think she’s got a beautiful face, and I think she’s a beautiful woman.”
