Former President George W. Bush announced through his office Tuesday he will attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration later this month.
The Texas Republican’s office sent out a statement that the ex-president and his wife, Laura Bush, “are pleased to be able to witness the peaceful transfer of power – a hallmark of American democracy – and swearing-in of President Trump and Vice President [Mike] Pence.”
In addition to Bush, President Barack Obama and former President Jimmy Carter will be present.
Bush’s father, former President George H.W. Bush, will not attend, and former President Bill Clinton has not yet announced whether he will be present.
Neither George W. Bush nor George H.W. Bush voted for Trump in the November election. The elder Bush reportedly voted for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
However, each congratulated Trump after his victory.
