Malaysia’s MRT may have found its new ambassador.
On Monday (Sep 4) morning, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad posted four new photos on his Facebook page showing him and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali taking the MRT.
The photos were accompanied with the caption: “With my wife taking the MRT Sg Buloh-Kajang today”.
Though he is 92 years old, Dr. M has proved to be very successful on social media, and his Facebook posts often cause a buzz online.
The latest post was no exception.
As expected, the Pakatan Harapan chairman’s post lighted up news feeds across Malaysia, and ended up garnering more than 84,000 reactions on the social media site. Of these reactions, 75,000 were “likes” and 8,000 were “loves”.
The majority of the 2,000 comments left on the post were from netizens who wished the couple well.
One of the Facebook users, Ali H. Jawad, wrote: “Have a very nice tour Tun Dr.Mahathir. May Allah bless you all, and protect this nice and peaceful country always.”
Some netizens expressed surprised that he would take the MRT, while others showered the former prime minister with praise, calling him an “idol” and a “living legend”.
