A serving British police officer has been accused of a string of sex crimes, including raping a 16-year-old girl

A serving member of Britain’s biggest police force has been charged with a string of sex crimes, including the rape of a 16-year-old girl.

PC Adam Provan, a constable in London’s Metropolitan Police, allegedly assaulted three separate victims over a 15-year period.

Provan, 38, was based in the Barking and Dagenham borough of east London, and has been suspended from work since being charged.

The charges against him, as spelled out in a police statement, are as follows:

    2002: Indecent assault of a 15-year-old girl – one count. 2010: Rape of a 16-year-old girl – two counts. 2016: Rape of a 20-year-old woman – four counts.

He is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 27 September.
