Cruise giant Royal Caribbean is offering $136,000 for someone to travel the world and post on social media

  • The successful applicant will visit a glacier in Alaska, explore Osaka in Japan, go white water rafting in the Norwegian Fjords, and spend time on a private island in the Caribbean.
  • They will shadow expert photographer Russ Francis, posting on social media as they go about their adventures.

For many people, a job is merely a way to fund their travels, and they never seem to have enough days of holiday.

If this sounds familiar, your dream job may have just become available.

Cruise company Royal Caribbean is looking for a new employee to sail round the globe, documenting their experiences on social media.

The company is advertising for an apprentice “Shore Explorer” who will get to travel the world – and be paid a salary of £104,000 ($136,000) for their efforts.

No longer will you have to rely on #throwbackthursday to keep your Instagram grid lit up with exotic travel snaps: The apprentice will visit a glacier in Alaska, explore Osaka in Japan, and go white water rafting in the Norwegian Fjords.

The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Royal Caribbean’s new and exclusive private island in the Caribbean, Perfect Day at CocoCay, all while shadowing expert photographer Russ Francis.

The role is open to British and Irish citizens aged 21 and over, and to apply you simply need to post an “extraordinary travel story, video, or image” on Instagram via Instagram stories, IGTV, or an Instagram post tagging @RoyalCaribbeanUK and #ShoreExplorer before the end of the day on March 1 2019.

Francis will be one of the judges of the competition, alongside The Vamps’ guitarist and “I’m A Celebrity” star James McVey, and travel writer Nadia El Ferdaoussi.

“We’re looking for an adrenaline junkie who is not only hungry for adventure, but also has a unique ability to capture a moment and tell a story in a simple social media post,” a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean said.

“We already offer a huge amount of incredible, once-in-a-lifetime, on-land experiences as part of our cruise holidays – from zip-wires and white water rafting, to walking on glaciers and hot air balloon rides.

“By launching this position, we’re hoping that the winning candidate will take our shore excursion programme to the next level.”
