When it comes to choosing your future employer, exercising discernment is key because each job offer could determine the next step in your career path.

Last month, a study found that Singaporeans are among the most disgruntled workers in the region with fewer reporting satisfaction with the companies they’re working for.

So if you’re in the midst of switching jobs, or simply looking for one, here are the top six companies you might want to consider.

This data comes from the Best Employers Singapore 2017 study commissioned by global HR consulting group Aon Hewitt.

American Express Company, DHL Express Asia Pacific, and FedEx Express Asia Pacific were recognised as regional best employers 2017 for Asia Pacific.

They were also named Aon best employers in at least three other markets across the region such as Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Marriott International, Singapore and InterContinental Hotels Group, Singapore were also named best employers through the Global program.

From the study, these organisations scored 82% for engagement, two points higher than last year. For employees, higher engagement levels are a direct result of an enhanced work experience.

With the average lowered by three points to 60% in 2017, numbers show that these companies are way ahead of the market.

Of those Aon named as best employers, 80% enable a high performance culture at the workplace (20 points higher than average), 81% provide their employees with better infrastructure (23 points higher than average) and 85% offer more opportunities for collaboration (21 points higher than average).

Five additional organisations received recognition in other categories:

According to CEOs of companies named Best Employer, the top two challenges impacting an organisation’s ability to succeed include operational/organisational efficiency and effectiveness as well as market factors.

However, CEOs from other participating organisations chose market factors and people issues which highlight the importance of having the right talent strategy in place. This will allow for a more productive workforce to deliver business results.

Jeremy Andrulis, CEO of Aon Hewitt (Southeast Asia)  added: “HR makes many decisions every day, both tactical and strategic, and they add up to create an overall employee experience and impact the value delivered to business.”
