The woman who fell to her death inside St Paul’s Cathedral last week has been named as 23-year-old Lidia Dragescu.

Dragescu, from Romford, Essex, died after falling from the cathedral’s gallery last Wednesday, the City of London Police said on Monday.

In a statement, her family said Lidia had found the world “a bad place to live in.”

She fell about 30 metres (100 feet) from the Whispering Gallery, a narrow walkway around the inside of the cathedral’s dome.

The gallery is open to tourists and currently the highest publicly accessible site in the building.

Some visitors inside the cathedral witnessed the death, St Paul’s Cathedral said last week. Police are treating it as non-suspicious.

Dragescu was “selfless and kind,” and “an outstanding student and a talented figure skater,” her family said in a statement issued by the police.

Here’s the tribute in full:

“Our daughter and sister was the most beautiful person in the world. Her heart was pure and kind, a soul from another world.

“She was an outstanding student and a talented figure skater. Beautiful, intelligent and kind. She would always help me, not allowing me to do any difficult chores.

“Her love for us was beyond measure, she was selfless and kind. Everything that she had she shared with us, always putting us first. We love her and will always love her.

“For Lidia, the world has been a bad place to live in.”
