Tinder will launch new features to make the experience better for transgender users in the next month and a half, CEO Sean Rad announced on stage at Vox Media’s Code Conference.
Right now, people signing up for Tinder can only designate themselves as “male” or “female” and list which of those options they want to connect with.
But soon, Tinder will launch more identification choices as well as new ways for users to list what they’re looking for.
Rad says that the company has been working with GLADD to design the new features.
So far, Tinder hasn’t given transgender people a great experience, Rad admits. He’s seen that transgender users are more likely to get reported than other users and he takes blame for not giving transgender people adequate identity options.
“We want every single person on Tinder to get a quality match,” he said. “We want to let people be who they are.”
