US President Donald Trump met Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for a working lunch on Monday (June 11) at the Istana in the lead-up to the historic summit where the former will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Trump remained positive and over a lunch where lobster bisque, beef tenderloin and ice cream were on the menu, he said, “We’ve got a very interesting meeting in particular tomorrow, and I just think it’s going to work out very nicely.”

Acknowledging the host country as well as the Singaporean prime minister, Trump added, “We appreciate your hospitality and professionalism and friendship…You’re my friend.”

There was also an early birthday cake for Trump, who turns 72 on Thursday.

Singapore Foreign Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan, was the first to tweet a photo of the birthday boy from the lunch at the Istana on his Facebook page.

Kim was nowhere to be seen on Monday after having met PM Lee on Sunday, shortly after landing in Singapore. There was also no sign of his sister, Kim Yo Jong, who has accompanied him on the trip.
