Two days after Amazon’s US store ended its free shipping to Singapore, the e-commerce giant announced on Wednesday (Dec 6) the launch of its Prime membership programme here.
Singapore customers will be able to enjoy Prime benefits such as exclusive access to free two-hour delivery on orders over S$40 ($29.70) and unlimited free international shipping on orders above S$60 on more than 5 million items from Amazon US.
Amazon Prime Video and gaming subscription service Twitch Prime are also made available to members using the Prime Now app.
Previously, Singapore customers were eligible for free international shipping with a minimum order of $125 for qualifying merchandise under the Free AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping option.
The catch now is, customers would need to become a Prime member for S$8.99 a month to enjoy free international shipping, or for a limited time, at a special rate of S$2.99 a month. Amazon is also offering a free 30-day trial via its website.
In a statement, vice-president of Amazon Prime International Jamil Ghani said: “Customers in Singapore have been enjoying ultra-fast delivery with Prime Now since July, and now, the introduction of Amazon Prime will take their shopping experience to the next level.”
Amazon Prime is now available in 16 countries, with Singapore being the first in Southeast Asia to launch it.
