2017 was an unsurprisingly eventful year for the US Navy.

New ships, such as the USS Washington and USS Gerald R. Ford, were commissioned. The USS Fitzgerald and USS John McCain were involved in collisions. Hurricane victims in the mainland US and Puerto Rico were aided. The terrorist group ISIS and Syrian forces were hit with cruise-missile strikes.

These are just a few of the developments and events. With 2017 coming to a close, we rounded up some of the best Navy photos taken this year that highlight its missions and duties.
