Ellen Hoffman, Tyler Lauletta, Kelsey Mulvey, Brandt Ranj, Spencer Lambert and I make up the Insider Picks team. Each day, we find and review all of the best, coolest stuff available across the internet to help our readers find which products, services, or deals are worth their time and money.

While we never collect any personal data on our readers, we are privy to what they purchase in the aggregate. And since we have such a huge audience, it’s fascinating to see their wide and varied interests.

It’s probably no surprise that the majority of popular Insider Picks stories tend to be those that speak to our core audience — aspiring, accomplished professionals — so productivity-enhancing gadgets, good-looking watches, and other stylish accessories all do really well.

However, some readers like to go in a different direction. For example, below are some of the more out-of-the-ordinary recent purchases by our readers.

We’re always on the lookout for cool stuff, so if you have any ideas about items or services we should consider reviewing, please let us know. And if you’re interested in seeing all that we have covered, you can check out the full library of Insider Picks here.

This bag from Dolce & Gabbana

We know that style is a popular category with our readers, but we’re under no impression the majority of our readers have unlimited money to spend on the things they find fashionable. However, it would appear that some readers do have a significant amount of disposable income. For instance, one fortunate reader sprung for this beautiful Dolce & Gabbana bag. (I personally don’t have the $2,495 to spend on a bag for my girlfriend, but if I did, this might be on my list.)

Black Walnut for Profit

This is a great example of how widely varied our readers’ backgrounds are — not everyone who reads the site works in tech or finance. For instance, apparently we have a budding arborist as a fan, because one of our readers dropped some serious change on a book about trees. According to Amazon, the book is about planting Black Walnut trees for the value of their lumber. It’s been out of print for a while and, given its price, must be rare.

(Based on this Etsy listing, asking for $2,500 for a Black Walnut tree stump, they may be on to something.)

This crazy motorized tricycle

The buyer of this leisure vehicle must have a pretty big driveway! With a top speed of 40mph, this scooter can really get moving. It would be an ideal present for a lucky kid, but it could also easily be a gift for the adult who still retains some childhood joie de vivre. Regardless, whoever gets behind the handlebars of this thing is in for a pretty awesome ride.
